This course introduces students to major film genres and examines how genre conventions shape storytelling, audience expectations, and cultural meaning. Students explore genres such as comedy, drama, science fiction, action, and documentary while developing skills in film analysis and interpretation. Through close viewing and discussion of selected films, students consider narrative structure, visual style, characterization, and social context, gaining a deeper understanding of how films reflect and influence cultural attitudes and experiences. This 3-credit course serves as a general elective.
