This course provides a comprehensive foundation for understanding key concepts of management and relevant activities associated with the management of individuals, groups and the organization. It covers key areas of management including the planning, organizing, leading and controlling functions within contemporary organizations. Topics covered include: effective decision making; the influence of the external environment and the organization’s culture; managing in a global environment; managing diversity, social responsibility and ethics; managing change and disruptive innovation; designing effective organizational structure; managing human resources; motivating employees; leading effectively; and, controlling people and operations. The course introduces students to management theory, research and case studies that will develop their ability to effectively manage workplaces facing complex real-world business problems.
