1. Purpose and Scope 

The Athletic Scholarships Policy aims to recognize and support outstanding student-athletes who demonstrate exceptional talent and commitment in their respective sports. This policy outlines the criteria, application process, and terms of the scholarship awarded to students at Alfaisal University.

2. Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for an athletic scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Be admitted to or currently enrolled in a full-time undergraduate program at Alfaisal University.
  2. Demonstrate outstanding athletic performance and potential in their respective sport.
  3. To qualify for and to maintain an athletic scholarship, students must demonstrate ongoing active participation in their respective sport.
  4. Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
  5. Exhibit leadership qualities and a commitment to community service.
  6. Comply with all university policies and regulations, including those related to athletics.

3. Scholarship Benefits

The athletic scholarship may cover one or more of the following:

  1. Full or Partial Scholarships: Partial athletic scholarships cover a portion of tuition fees. The amount may vary depending on the student-athlete's performance, the sport they play, and the availability of funds.
  2. Other related expenses as determined by the scholarship committee.

4. Athletic Award Categories

  1. Olympic Medal 100% (Full Scholarship)
  2. Olympic Qualified 50% of the university tuition fees
  3. Regional Medal 50% of the university tuition fees
  4. National Medal 50% of the university tuition fees
  5. Member of any Saudi National Team 30% of the university tuition fees

5. Application Process

The application process for the athletic scholarship involves the following steps:

  1. Application Submission: Interested students must submit a completed scholarship application form, available on the university’s website, by the specified deadline.
  2. Supporting Documents: Applicants must provide:
    1. A personal statement outlining their athletic achievements, goals, and how the scholarship will aid their academic and athletic pursuits.
    2. Two letters of recommendation, one from a coach and one from an academic instructor.
    3. Official transcripts.
    4. Evidence of athletic performance, such as video footage, statistics, or certificates.
  3. Interview: Shortlisted candidates may be invited for an interview with the scholarship committee.

6. Selection Criteria

The selection committee will evaluate applicants based on the following:

  1. Athletic performance and potential.
  2. Academic achievements and potential.
  3. Leadership and community involvement.

7. Scholarship Renewal

Athletic scholarships are renewable annually, contingent upon the recipient:

  1. Maintaining the required academic performance (minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5).
  2. Demonstrating continuous athletic involvement and performance.
  3. Upholding exemplary conduct both on and off the field.
  4. Fulfilling any additional requirements set by the scholarship committee.

8. Responsibilities of Scholarship Recipients

Scholarship recipients are expected to:

  1. Represent Alfaisal University in their respective sports with dedication and sportsmanship.
  2. Participate in mandatory training sessions, competitions, and related events.
  3. Balance academic responsibilities with athletic commitments effectively.
  4. Engage in community service activities as ambassadors of the university.
  5. Adhere to the code of conduct for student-athletes and all university policies.

9. Termination of Scholarship

The university reserves the right to terminate the scholarship if the recipient:

  1. Fails to meet the academic or athletic performance criteria.
  2. Engages in misconduct or behavior that tarnishes the reputation of the university.
  3. Voluntarily withdraws from the athletic program or the university.

10. Appeal Process

Students who have their scholarship terminated or who are not selected may appeal the decision. Appeals must be submitted in writing to the scholarship committee through the Deanship of Student Affairs, Admissions, and Registration within 30 days of the notification of the decision, detailing the grounds for the appeal and any supporting evidence.

11. Review and Amendments

This policy will be reviewed annually by the scholarship committee to ensure its effectiveness and alignment with the university’s goals. Amendments to the policy may be made based on the outcomes of the review and changing needs of the university and its student-athletes.
