Develops effective communication skills in Modern Standard Arabic, with emphasis on clear and accurate speaking and writing. The course covers paragraph writing, vocabulary development, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and style, while strengthening students’ ability to comprehend, analyse, and communicate ideas across a range of academic, professional, and everyday contexts. Selected texts are also used to enhance linguistic competence and literary appreciation

Designed for students whose first language is not Arabic and who have limited or no prior knowledge of the language. The course introduces the fundamentals of Modern Standard Arabic within relevant cultural contexts, with emphasis on developing basic proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. It also introduces essential grammar and vocabulary to enable effective communication in everyday contexts.

Builds on the foundational knowledge and skills developed in ARB 101 NN, further developing students’ proficiency in Modern Standard Arabic within relevant cultural contexts. The course integrates listening, speaking, reading, and writing, with increased emphasis on comprehension and effective communication. Students expand their vocabulary and grammatical competence and develop greater accuracy and confidence in using Arabic in a range of everyday and familiar contexts.

Develops effective oral communication and presentation skills in Arabic across academic, professional, and public contexts. The course covers public speaking, presentations, storytelling, and structured debate, with emphasis on organising ideas, constructing effective messages, and using language appropriately for different audiences and purposes. Students also develop vocal delivery skills, including clarity, stress, intonation, and pacing, as well as effective use of body language. Practical speaking and presentation tasks, supported by constructive feedback, form an integral part of the course.

Introduces the principles and practices of creative writing in Arabic, with particular emphasis on poetry and short fiction. Through close reading of selected texts, guided writing exercises, and peer discussion, students explore key literary techniques, including imagery, voice, style, characterisation, and narrative structure. The course develops students’ ability to express ideas and emotions creatively, produce original literary work, and critically appreciate diverse forms and styles of Arabic literary expression.
