General Department Information
The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences offers a diverse range of elective courses designed to enrich students’ educational experience and broaden their intellectual and cultural perspectives. Its offerings span the Arts and Humanities, including Arabic and foreign languages and Islamic Studies, as well as the Social Sciences, including Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, History, and other related disciplines.
In addition to its teaching mission, the Department promotes research and scholarly activity across the humanities and social sciences. It also contributes to the broader mission of the College and University through interdisciplinary collaboration, academic engagement, and service to the community.

Humanities & Social Sciences
Welcome to the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences in the College of Science and General Studies. The Department is dedicated to advancing a broad and well-rounded university education grounded in “Faith, Knowledge, and Performance”—the guiding principles articulated by the late King Faisal (may God have mercy on him) for the advancement of the nation. Through teaching, scholarship, and academic engagement, the Department seeks to uphold these principles while enriching students’ intellectual, cultural, and personal development.
Recognising the Humanities and Social Sciences as integral to university education, the Department fosters ethical awareness, critical and creative thinking, effective communication, and a deeper understanding of the self, society, and the wider world. Through its diverse academic offerings, it broadens students’ perspectives, promotes an appreciation of different languages, cultures, and traditions, and equips them with the knowledge, skills, and values that complement their professional education and prepare them to contribute meaningfully and responsibly to society
